Fizzwick grew up in a gnomish enclave on the Rock of Bral, the famous asteroid city that serves as the crossroads of Wildspace. While other gnome children tinkered with clockwork toys, Fizzwick was fascinated by the spelljammer helms that powered the great ships visiting port — the magical devices that could propel a vessel through the void between worlds. He studied at the Bral Academy of Arcane Navigation, specializing in abjuration magic to protect ships from the countless hazards of Wildspace: asteroid fields, phlogiston storms, neogi slavers, and worse. He developed a reputation as the finest navigator in the academy's history, capable of plotting courses through crystal sphere boundaries that other navigators considered impossible. Despite his brilliance, Fizzwick's insatiable curiosity often leads him to chart courses to unexplored spheres, much to the consternation of the captains he serves.

He wears a practical blue robe covered in pockets containing star charts, navigation instruments, and spell components, and a magnificent brass astrolabe hangs from a chain around his neck, its rings slowly rotating of their own accord.
