Licensing & Legal

Third-party content attributions, open licenses, and legal notices for Dungeon Manager.

Wizards of the Coast Fan Content Policy

Primary licensing framework for D&D content on this site

Required Disclaimer

Dungeon Manager is unofficial Fan Content permitted under the Fan Content Policy. Not approved/endorsed by Wizards. Portions of the materials used are property of Wizards of the Coast. ©Wizards of the Coast LLC.

Dungeon Manager operates under Wizards of the Coast's Fan Content Policy, which permits fan sites and tools to freely use WotC's intellectual property — including D&D setting names, Product Identity creature names, adventure module names, and other branded content — provided the content remains free to access without payment or required registration.

What This Covers

The Fan Content Policy is the licensing basis for WotC-branded content throughout Dungeon Manager, including:

  • Product Identity creature and species names (Beholder, Mind Flayer/Illithid, Githyanki, Githzerai, Yuan-ti, Slaad, Modron, Eladrin, and others)
  • Named settings (Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, Dragonlance, Ravenloft, Eberron, Spelljammer, Planescape, Dark Sun, and others)
  • Adventure module and sourcebook names (Curse of Strahd, Tomb of Horrors, Temple of Elemental Evil, and others)
  • Named characters, deities, and lore figures associated with WotC settings
  • Campaign and character templates inspired by WotC adventures and settings

Free Access Commitment

The Fan Content Policy requires that Fan Content be freely accessible — without payment, subscription, or required registration. Dungeon Manager is free to use. Compendium entries, setting content, templates, and other WotC-IP-derived material are not and will not be placed behind a paywall.

Dungeon Manager is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Wizards of the Coast LLC or Hasbro, Inc. Dungeons & Dragons is a trademark of Wizards of the Coast LLC.

System Reference Document 5.2.1

Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International — open game content

In addition to the Fan Content Policy above, Dungeon Manager includes compendium content — including monsters, spells, magic items, conditions, species, classes, backgrounds, feats, and equipment — drawn from the System Reference Document 5.2.1 ("SRD 5.2.1") by Wizards of the Coast LLC, which is separately licensed under CC BY 4.0.

Required Attribution

"This work includes material taken from the System Reference Document 5.2.1 ("SRD 5.2.1") by Wizards of the Coast LLC, available at https://www.dndbeyond.com/srd. Licensed under CC BY 4.0: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode"

The SRD 5.2.1 is available at dndbeyond.com/srd and is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

The CC BY 4.0 license covers the open game content in the SRD (most monster stat blocks, spell mechanics, class features, and equipment). Product Identity content — creature names, setting names, and other WotC-branded material not included in the SRD's open content — is used under the Fan Content Policy described above.
