Backstory

Agatha was a village healer in the Charneault Kingdom when the grey plague swept through and killed two-thirds of her patients. The temples were empty — the gods of Etharis are distant, indifferent, or perhaps dead — but Agatha's prayers were answered anyway, by something warm and quiet that she chooses to believe is divine. She fashioned a plague doctor's mask, filled it with healing herbs, and walked into the worst-hit villages with nothing but her faith and her medicine bag. They call her "Mother" because she mothers everyone — setting broken bones, delivering babies, and sitting with the dying when no one else will. In a world this dark, Agatha insists on being a candle.

A sturdy, careworn woman who wears a long dark coat over practical traveling clothes, with a plague doctor's beaked mask pushed up on her forehead. A heavy leather satchel of medical supplies hangs at her side, and her hands are rough from lye soap and herb-grinding. Her expression is tired but kind.
