Character Details
Vex served Breland's King's Dark Lanterns throughout the Last War, running intelligence operations behind enemy lines in Cyre, Karrnath, and Thrane. He was good at his job — perhaps too good. When the Mourning destroyed Cyre in a single cataclysmic moment, Vex was operating just across the border and witnessed the wall of dead-gray mist consume an entire nation. The trauma shattered something inside him. After the Treaty of Thronehold ended the war, he could not return to normal intelligence work. He burned his handler, sold state secrets to fund his disappearance, and reinvented himself as a freelance operative in Sharn. Now he works for whoever pays, using the arcane tricks he learned from a Dark Lantern artificer to supplement his considerable mundane skills. He tells himself he left the service on principle, but the truth is simpler: he ran because he was afraid.
"I never use my real name and maintain at least three cover identities at all times. Trust is a luxury I cannot afford."
"Self-Preservation. The Last War taught me that nations, causes, and loyalties are all temporary. Only survival matters."
"I still have contacts inside the Dark Lanterns who feed me information. One of them, a woman named Sera, saved my life in Cyre. I owe her a debt I can never repay."
"I lie so habitually that I sometimes lose track of what is true. My web of deceptions will eventually collapse, and I dread that day."

An unremarkable-looking man with the kind of face that is easy to forget — which is exactly how he wants it. He dresses to blend in with whatever crowd he is infiltrating, favoring dark, layered clothing with concealed weapon sheaths. His gray-green eyes are his most notable feature, constantly scanning his environment with the practiced alertness of a professional spy.
