Character Details

Backstory

Ashara was the best navigator on the Sapphire Coast — born with an air genasi's feel for wind and weather that no compass could match. She loved the sea the way poets write about it: desperately and without condition. Then came the hurricane off Cape Ruin, the worst storm in living memory. The ship was going down. The crew was going to die. And something inside Ashara broke open. Lightning erupted from her hands, the wind obeyed her screaming, and the sea parted just long enough for the ship to slide through. When the storm passed, the crew was alive and Ashara was lying on the deck with blue-silver scales covering her arms and lightning still dancing between her fingers. The scales faded by morning. The power didn't. Her captain — her friend — looked at her like she was something to be afraid of. Ashara left the ship at the next port and hasn't sailed since.
