A Tolkien-inspired journey through the dark depths of a great forest. Shadows grow beneath ancient canopies, corruption spreads from a forgotten fortress, and simple folk need heroes to stand between them and the encroaching darkness.
Story Arcs
The Forest Road
The adventurers join a caravan traveling the Old Forest Road through Mirkwood. As they journey deeper, they discover that the road is no longer safe — spider webs block the path, wolf packs grow bolder, and travelers disappear in the night.
The Shadow's Source
The corruption plaguing the forest emanates from a ruined fortress deep in the woods. The adventurers must find it, confront the darkness within, and rescue a missing ranger who discovered the truth too late.

The Woodman's Warning
The party arrives at the Woodman village and meets Chieftain Beranald. He warns that the forest has grown dangerous — more so than in living memory. The party is hired to escort a merchant caravan along the Old Forest Road.
Shadows on the Road
The caravan journey begins. Giant spider webs force detours, wolves stalk the caravan at night, and a merchant goes missing. The party must protect the caravan and investigate the disappearance.
The Spider Ruins
The trail of the missing merchant leads to ancient ruins choked with spider webs. The party descends into a nest of giant spiders and discovers that the creatures are being driven from deeper in the forest by something worse.
The Lost Ranger
Silwen's scouts have found signs of Haldir, the missing elf ranger who went to investigate the shadow. His trail leads into the darkest part of the forest. The party must track him through increasingly corrupted terrain.
The Narrows
The Narrows of the Forest — a claustrophobic stretch where the canopy blocks all light. Orc patrols guard the approach to the ruined fortress. The party must fight or sneak through to reach the source of the corruption.
The Ruined Fortress
The final confrontation at the corrupted fortress. Haldir is found alive but enchanted. A troll warlord has made the fortress his lair, and a creeping shadow-magic feeds on the forest through a corrupted altar. Destroy the altar, defeat the troll, and free Haldir.
NPCs
Chieftain Beranald
Human · Woodman Chieftain
Broad-shouldered leader of the Woodman settlement, descended from the original forest-folk. Practical and gruff, he knows the forest intimately and can read its moods. He has watched the shadow grow for years and fears his people cannot hold out much longer.
Silwen Stargazer
Elf · Elf Ranger
A wood elf patrol leader who watches the forest borders. Calm and perceptive, she speaks softly but carries a bow that never misses. She sent her best ranger, Haldir, to find the source of the shadow — and he never returned. She blames herself.
Tobold Greenhill
Halfling · Traveling Merchant
A cheerful halfling merchant whose caravan plies the Old Forest Road despite the danger. His trade goods keep the Woodman village supplied with essentials from the outside world. Brave in his own way, though he'd rather talk than fight.
Aldric the Hermit
Human · Corrupted Hermit
A former healer who retreated into the forest decades ago. The creeping shadow has warped his mind — he now serves the corruption unknowingly, luring travelers off the road with false hospitality. He can be saved if the corruption is cleansed, but he will fight to protect it.
Haldir Windwalker
Elf · Missing Ranger
Silwen's most skilled scout, sent to find the source of the shadow. He reached the fortress but was captured and placed under an enchantment. If freed, he can provide crucial intelligence about the fortress's defenses and the shadow-magic's nature.
Locations
Woodman Village
A cluster of sturdy timber longhouses built in a forest clearing, protected by a wooden palisade and watchfires that burn through the night. The villagers are hardy folk who live by logging, hunting, and trading with passing merchants.
The Old Forest Road
An ancient road cutting through the heart of the great forest. Once well-maintained, it has fallen into disrepair — roots crack the cobblestones, and the canopy closes overhead until the road becomes a green tunnel lit by rare shafts of sunlight.
The Spider Ruins
Crumbling stone structures from a forgotten civilization, now draped in thick layers of spider silk. The webs are so dense in places that they form walls and floors, creating a three-dimensional maze above the original architecture.
The Narrows of the Forest
A section of the forest where the trees grow so close together that the canopy blocks all light. The air is thick and still, and a sense of watchful malice pervades the gloom. Even experienced woodsmen avoid this stretch.
Quests
Escort the Merchant Caravan
Tobold Greenhill needs guards for his caravan traveling the Old Forest Road. The pay is fair and the route is essential for the Woodman village, but the road grows more dangerous with each passing week.
Cleanse the Spider Nests
Giant spiders have grown bold enough to spin webs across the road itself. Chieftain Beranald asks the party to track the spiders to their nest and destroy it before they cut off the village entirely.
Investigate the Shadow
Something dark is growing in the heart of the forest, driving creatures mad and corrupting the land. Silwen Stargazer believes the shadow emanates from a specific source and asks the party to find it.
Find the Lost Ranger
Haldir Windwalker has been missing for weeks after venturing deep into the forest to investigate the shadow. Silwen fears the worst but holds onto hope. Find him — alive or dead — and bring him home.
Encounters
Wolf Pack Ambush
A pack of gaunt, desperate wolves attacks the caravan at dusk. They are unnaturally aggressive, driven to hunt by the corruption that has depleted their normal prey.
The Spider Nest
Giant spiders descend from the canopy on threads of silk, surrounding the party in a web-choked ruin. Egg sacs line the walls, and the largest spider guards the cocooned body of a missing traveler.
Orc Patrol
A patrol of orc warriors guards the approach to the ruined fortress. They are well-equipped and disciplined — servants of the shadow rather than mere raiders.
The Troll Warlord
A massive forest troll has claimed the ruined fortress as its lair. It fights with savage cunning, using the fortress corridors to ambush and retreat, regenerating damage between engagements.
Factions
The Woodmen of the Forest
Neutral Good
Hardy frontier folk who have lived in the shadow of the great forest for generations. They know its paths and moods, and they endure its dangers with quiet courage. Their chieftain speaks for them in matters of war and trade.
The Forest Wardens
Chaotic Good
A small cadre of elf rangers who patrol the forest borders and monitor the spread of shadow. Led by Silwen Stargazer, they work covertly to protect both the forest and its mortal inhabitants from the growing darkness.
